Describe Yourself:
I’ve been on an intentional spiritual journey all of my life. This journey led me to several ‘wells’: Christianity, Earth-Centered Traditions, Metaphysics, Sufism, Hinduism, Contemplative Spirituality, Mysticism, Buddhism and Vedantism. What I discovered is that my heart is most aligned to the river of eternal truth that flows beneath these wells. The best term I've found for this is 'interspiritual'; the space between traditions or the spiritual common ground.
Being the presence of love and compassion and living amongst and serving those who are most in need is how I am called. Beacons of light for me on this path are Mother Antonia (the Prison Angel); Dorothy Day (co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement), and Catherine de hueck Doherty.
For many years, I have served and befriended those who are sometimes considered most difficult to love - prisoners, juvenile offenders, street and sheltered youth, and those who are experiencing homelessness. I have worked as a board member and staff of organizations devoted to human rights and social justice issues.
Current Work:
* Interfaith homeless shelter director * Board member for Wellbriety for Prisons - reentry and recovery program for Native Americans * Spiritual Director (aka, soul friend, spiritual companion) - for people who are incarcerated, homeless or otherwise in need as well as those who are living lives of service.
“…What we would like to do is change the world—make it a little simpler for people to feed, clothe, and shelter themselves as God intended them to do. And to a certain extent, by fighting for better conditions, by crying out unceasingly for the rights of the workers, of the poor, of the destitute...we can to a certain extent change the world; we can work for the oasis, the little cell of joy and peace in a harried world. We can throw our pebble in the pond and be confident that its ever widening circle will reach around the world.
We repeat, there is nothing that we can do but love, and dear God, please enlarge our hearts to love each other, to love our neighbor, to love our enemy as well as our friend.” - Dorothy Day
